Description of the innovation projectAn automatic and scalable system for piping water leak detection and georeferenced localization, for piping network of human water distribution, in urban and extra-urban context. This new system is characterized as network of repair joints with integration of wireless sensors system for multi detection parameters, directly mounted onto broken pipe in manutentive phase. The network of this “smart joints” can detect and localized the water leak in real time and send the data to radio base for storage, analisys and statistical post processing.

Market segmentThis system can to able our company to present on the market a new product ready for WSN of water distribution pipe network monitoring, for various diameters. The principal managing bodies for hydric resources in Apulia Region have already expressed their interest. The next step is the extend in national context, European and extra-UE.
Advantage factorThey are known many consolidated techniques for water leak detection, e.g. the acoustic approach with phonometer or vibrations sensing with accelerometer devices. The actual proposal provides the integration of many transducers element and their relative read-out board, with the mechanical repair joint system. This “Smart-Joint” has the ability of the detection of multiple physical quantities for efficiency leak detection and localization, with very low structural and environmental impact.
Commercial challengeThe competitive advantage consist in the exclusive upgrade of mechanical joint with active sensing capacity and make to the extended monitoring network. The application of IP for this system will allow, for our company in partnership with SME maker of joint, it to become an industrial leaders.
